The
History of The Art House
The Art House is the direct result of a perceived need for quality art
studio space in the city of Corvallis, Oregon.
The original single family dwelling that was the very beginning of The
Art House was acquired in the spring of 1996. By that fall, construction
was underway to add a large well lit addition to the existing art studio
with natural and artificial light and access onto the back of the building
that was already there. When the construction of the addition was completed
in April, it almost immediately became a place for photography, sculpture
and painting as well as a meeting area for art discussion groups and a
work area for various artists. The Art House has also been a temporary
guest residence for international representatives to Corvallis. In the
spring of 1998, a remodeling of the garage area increased storage so that
another room could be made into a professional darkroom for photography.
Studio space for painting, drawing and sculpture has industrial exhaust
and fans, large lights for all areas, capability to block out light for
photographic or artificial lighting purposes, flammables storage and fire
and theft protection. The large backyard has vegetables in raised bed
gardens, flowers and trees year round. Studio visits may be arranged by
appointment.
